A LOCAL F1 team has raced into pole position by securing a very prestigious sponsorship deal.

Legacy Racing, an F1 in School’s team from Presentation College, Carlow has partnered with technology giant Microsoft to aid its journey through the competition.

The competition has now becoming hugely popular across the country, with teams given the task to design, engineer, manufacture and promote a miniature F1 car, tapping into the students’ STEM capabilities. With the national finals taking place on the Tuesday 21 March, teams are currently vying for the support of companies to fund their work in the competition.

Members of the Legacy Racing team believe their partnership with Microsoft is a great boost as they strive to win the 2017 F1 in Schools national finals.

The team has great experience in the competition, with three of its members taking part in the 2014 world finals after a successful campaign in their first year in the competition.

They have been working towards this year’s national finals since last September and are confident in their ability to bring home the national trophy. The team is currently working hard on manufacturing its car and looking the sponsorship. Along with Microsoft, it has already gained the support of other companies such as JW Tyres, CGL Retail Solutions and Lalor O’Shea McQuillan Chartered Accounts.
