AN inventive young man from Carlow has won a prestigious gong at the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.
Aron Purser, a third year mechanical engineering student at IT Carlow who hails from Ballycrogue, received the Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Award at a special ceremony in the InterContinental Hotel, Dublin.
Aron’s project, the Forklift ‘Bucket Bagger’, supports agricultural and construction work and is placed on the front of a forklift to fill bulk bags. Previously, no such bucket existed for forklifts other than those for teleporters, which were unsuitable for use. They also limited the driver’s visibility. Aron and his innovative product tackled these issues and the ‘Bucket Bagger’ is currently used by RDC Contracts in Kildare.
Sponsored by Siemens, the awards focus on showcasing innovation excellence among Ireland’s third-level engineering students.
