THE Irish Life national indoor athletics league culminated last weekend with the ladies’ team from St Laurence O’Toole AC in Carlow taking home silver medals with a very young team who turned in great performances throughout.

Over the two days in Athlone and Dublin, the running, jumping and throwing proved very strong and eventually guaranteed the silver medals travel back to Carlow.

Sive O’Toole, Chloe Hayden, Lyndsey Ward and Corrine Kenny grabbed huge points in the track events, while Damilola Adesina, Kimberley Byrne, Emma Hutton and Aibhe Kiernan all pointed well in the field events.

The 4x200m relay was the final event on the final day and with all the points added up, the girls had to beat Leevale of Cork, Finn Valley of Donegal and Clonliffe Harriers from Dublin to secure silver.

Aoife Ryan, Damilola, Corrine and Chloe set about the task well and finished second to the eventual winners of the title, Dublin City Harriers. Credit must go to team coach Rita Maher who galvanised the squad over the two days and made sure each member of the team performed to the best of their ability and was very proud of the final outcome.

Team members: Aoife Ryan (relay), Damilola Adesina (high jump & relay), Kimberley Byrne (pole vault), Aibhe Kiernan (triple jump), Corrine Kenny (400m & 800m & relay), Lyndsey Ward (1500m), Chloe Hayden (200m & relay), Emma Hutton (shot putt), Sive O’Toole (60m & 60m Hurdles) Rita Maher (Coach).
