CARLOW ladies football team made it three wins from three in Division 4 of the national league in Magherafelt on Sunday.
Carlow got on the board in the opening five minutes with Róisín Byrne pointing. Three minutes later Lauren Dwyer fired home the first of three goals and Carlow were in control. Further points by Dwyer and Clíodhna Ní Shé extended the visitors’ lead in the first quarter.
Derry hit back with a Emma Doherty free but a superb Anne Roche block saw play move back down the field and Ní She scored Carlow’s second goal to give Carlow a 2-3 to 0-2 interval lead.
At the beginning of the second half Carlow piled on the pressure with Dwyer netting twice in quick succession.
That effectively decided the destination of the points. Derry lived on crumbs. Ní Shé added further points with Edel Hayden also getting among the scorers.
Derry didn’t give up. They continued to battle as the Carlow defence did well with Michelle Dermody making another block and Kerrel Clarke picked up the loose ball. She made ground quickly and Hayden was on hand to finish off a fine score.
So another great performance by Carlow who have been building up momentum in the last few weeks.
Their next game is on Sunday at the IT Carlow grounds at 2pm.
