CHARITIES and organisations around Carlow town will benefit hugely from the proceeds raised by the local Rotary Club at Christmas through its remembrance tree.

The St Vincent de Paul Society, Éist, Bethany House and other organisations were presented with cheques by Fintan Phelan, the current president of the Rotary Club. Students representing the Gaelcholáiste and the CBS were also awarded some money as a thank you for all the volunteering work they did with the remembrance tree in December.

It was really successful and so we raised about €9,000, which we’ve distributed among various charities,” Fintan explained. “The remembrance tree, where people can write the name of a loved one on a yellow ribbon and which are blessed afterwards in the cathedral, is so well supported. We have people coming back year after year to remember loved ones.”

The cheques were presented in the Delta Centre, where everyone was made to feel welcome. The Rotary Club members would like to thank Eileen and her crew in the Delta Centre, the students who helped out, all the volunteers, as well as the staff at UNUM for their continued support.
