CARLOW Lawn Tennis Club (CLTC) launched its 83rd annual Senior Open Tennis Championships at the tennis club last Wednesday.

The CLTC annual Open Week runs from Sunday 2 June to Saturday 8 June. This graded tennis event attracts players of all standards from tennis clubs right around the south-east, midlands and Dublin region. Last year 182 players competed in 20 events.

Great efforts have gone into organising this year’s competitions by the organising committee of Mary Yates (tournament director), Jim Nolan, Lesley Dowley, Brian Farrell and Andrew Harte. Open Week is one of the highlights in the CLTC tennis calendar.

Spectators are welcome all week, particularly on finals day, Saturday 8 June. The club in particularly welcome any veterans for the Over-50 men’s singles and over-50s mixed doubles.  Singles champions Rory Hogan (Kilkenny) and Mary Claire McCarthy (Sunday’s Well) will be defending their respective titles.

CLTC are again welcoming Sheehy Motors Carlow on board as sponsor for the seventh year. Present at the launch along with the committee were club president Annette Flynn, chairperson Tremayne Horkan and newly elected tennis captain Rowena Ni Neachtain while Sheehy Motors were represented by Gearoid Candy and Thomas Dobbyn.
