CARLOW rowing club crews travelled to Athlone and turned in some stellar performances in their regatta.

The men’s Club 2 quad of Finn Bolton Dowling, David Callanan, Luke Keating, Dylan Nolan and cox Keelan Reynolds rowed for gold on the day beating teams from Neptune and Commercial in the finals.

The girls success on the water came with the junior 15 quad of Katie Egan, Aoife Hickson, cox Olivia Neaves, Elenor Feeney and Rachel Lacey taking gold in style beating teams from Shannon Boat Club and Lee (A) Boat Club.

The junior 16 quad had a very successful day winning their heat with clear water to spare. Orla Walsh, Aoife Hickson, Olivia Neaves, Ava Kavanagh with cox Fionn Heslin took to the final with the same conviction and again claimed gold against teams from Shannon BC and Lee (A) boat club.

Carlow’s very own Jack Keating also had more recent success at the London Metropolitan Regatta.

Jack and crew mates David Breen (UCC), Ross Corrigan (Queens, Belfast) and Brian O’Rourke (NUIG) claimed the gold medal in the Tier 2 fours event.

They beat teams from Exeter, Durham, UCC, Royal Chester and Kingston Tideway. These rowers are all busy working towards a place in the worlds event later this year.
