IT has been a busy spring for the swimmers of St Fiacc’s swimming club, Graiguecullen who are working towards the upcoming Irish Division 2 National Championships and the Irish Summer National Championships.

Entry to both of these events, which will be held in July at the University of Limerick 50m pool, requires swimmers to obtain very tough qualifying times.

As part of their preparation for qualifying for these events, both the St Fiacc’s A and B squads attended training camps.

The A squad travelled to Calella in Spain for a very tough week of training under head coach Irina Dawson at the Crol Centre, while the B squad travelled to the University of Limerick for a four-day training camp under the supervision of coach Nicky Walsh.

All of the hard work paid off at the Leinster Division 1 Championship earlier this month when St Fiacc’s swimmers achieved a high number of qualifying times and took home 10 medals.

St Fiacc’s now has nine swimmers qualified for the Irish Summer National Championships and 17 swimmers qualified for the Irish Division 2 National Championships.

That is a fantastic turnout for Carlow’s only competitive swimming club on a national stage.

More information about the club, including details of kids swimming lessons and adult masters fitness sessions, can be found at www.stfiaccs.ie.
