IT was non-stop for the members of Askea Senior Citizens last week when they eked the last few hours of entertainment out of the summer!
A bus-full of them headed off to Waterford for an afternoon of light shopping before returning to the Seven Oaks Hotel for their summer party. The huge crowd had dinner, music and a chat to round the season off very nicely.
Once a month, they have a social night together, when they play a game of bingo, listen to music, have some refreshments and, of course, enjoy some banter with each other. The group, led by Marian Heary, is run by volunteers who have been involved with them for years.
It’s a valuable service to the community because it gets people, who may otherwise be quite isolated, out of the house and into a social scene, where they can meet friends or maybe even make new ones.
New members are always welcome and there’s even transport to pick people up at their own doorsteps.
The group have lots of trips and mini-holidays planned throughout the year, too. If you’ve like to join, contact Marian on 059 9143010.
