GRAIGUECULLEN are county champions in both Community Games U13 indoor soccer and U15 girls futsal, while Hacketstown took the honours in the U15 boys futsal.

Graiguecullen’s U13 girls played their final, deferred from 26 January, in an early morning showdown in Ballon Community Centre. The opponents were the U13 girls from Borris/St Mullins. Both teams were fit, prepped and ready for action but on the day Graiguecullen had the edge in this tie and will now go forward to represent Carlow at Leinster level.

Graiguecullen’s U13 team was Ella Mathews, Abbie O’Shea, Kerri McDonald, Leah Corrigan, Mia Branagan, Hanna Kerfah, Ashlee Smith and Leah Cummins. The team was coached by Roy Pearson.

Borris/St Mullins’s U13 indoor soccer girls were Molly Kavanagh, Alice Dalton, Ava O’Dwyer, Rachel Kennedy, Sarah Joyce and Mia O’Neill.

The morning continued with true edge-of-the-seat stuff as the U15 girls and boys futsal competition. The girls event was a straight final which saw Bennekerry/Tinryland square up to Graiguecullen. Experience paid off as the Graiguecullen girls tucked this one nicely under their belt for the area’s second win of the day and even more celebrations.

Graiguecullen’s county champions are Emma Doyle (captain), Orla Keating, Ava Hernon, Rose Franks, Katie Carroll and Kaytlin Timmons. Missing on the day were Shayna Howe and Ella Byrne.

Bennekerry/Tinryland’s team was Marie Cranny, Chloe Ryan, Amy Reid, Keira Doyle, Tara & Ava Lynch, Anna Crosby and Éabha McConnon.

In the boys clash the lads from Graiguecullen put an early stop to Tullow/Grange’s efforts. Hacketstown were similarly too strong for Ballon/Rathoe. The Bennekerry/Tinryland boys played out a gripping semi-final against Graiguecullen. Some great keeping by B/T’s Ryan Gordon and three strong goals kept B/T in the game right up until the end but Graiguecullen had the edge. The final between Graiguecullen and Hacketstown was nothing short of heart-stopping. At one minute to the end it looked like a play for extra time was on the cards when Hacketstown’s Adam Kinsella sent in a screamer and fate was decided. Hacketstown are U15 county champions and Graiguecullen runners-up for 2020.

Hacketstown’s gold-medal winners were Adam Kinsella, Billy Hurney, James Boland, Jack O’Toole, Aaron Byrne, Lee Doyle and William Doyle. Coach is Damien Lyons.

The Graiguecullen boys were Danny Mcgrath, Leo Hurkey, Ricky Slattery, Aidan Bradley, James Horahan, Scott Dooley, Jamillio De Salvador and Dylan Williamson.

Thank you to Damien Lyons and Tony Noctor for four weekends of refereeing, as well as to all county committee members for assisting at the last four weekends of indoor events. Bualadh bos go léi
