ST Lazerian’s are Carlow Community Games’ newest county champions in U16 boys basketball while Askea are runners-up.

In the first semi-final, St Lazerian’s faced a strong and athletic Bennekerry/Tinryland team. It took a while for the St Lazerian’s offence to start to click and once it did the boys got going.

Defensively both teams were very busy, especially under the boards. St Lazerian’s held on for the win.

In the second semi-final, Askea were a force to be reckoned with from the get-go. Unfortunately Slaney Valley were missing a few of their key players which left them struggling to match their opponents’ scores. Askea came out on top.

In the final St Lazerian’s faced Askea. Both teams were warmed up and ready to go however, it was St Lazerian’s who came out on top. Very well to all four teams, as well as to the referees, table staff and committee.

St Lazerian’s U16 gold-medal winners were David Kavanagh, Paul Fitz, James McDonald, Tadgh O’Neill, Darragh Fitzgerald, Joey Byrne, Brian Cox, Jeremy Hia, Bobby Daly. Missing from photo: Jack Kehoe
