A CARLOW man who faces 70 counts of indecent assault was sent forward for trial to the circuit court last week. The man is alleged to have carried out indecent assaults on three injured parties between 1977 and 1990 at a location in the county.

A book of evidence was presented to the 57-year-old defendant by Garda Nigel Conway at last Wednesday’s sitting of the local district court. The case will next appear at a sitting of Carlow Circuit Court on 10 November.

Judge Bernadette Owens warned the defendant that he must notify gardaí within 14 days if an alibi is to form part of his defence. The judge also consented to a request for copies of all interview recordings to be given to defending solicitor Brendan O’Flaherty.

The identity of the defendant cannot be disclosed as Judge Owens issued reporting restrictions on details that could identify the injured parties.
