The striker was back in the starting line up for the Exiles after starting last Saturday’s league opener against Scunthorpe on the bench but was withdrawn before Scott Twine scored the only goal of the game.

The win sets up a home tie next week in the third round against Watford. The side, who were recently relegated from the Premier League, struggled last night against League 1 Oxford. They looked to be on the wrong end of an upset before an 89th minute equaliser and they eventually won through after a penalty shoot out.

Before that cup tie, Newport play their first home game of the season on Saturday against league newcomers Barrow.
