Poetic Flare won the English version at Newmarket last month and ran a brilliant race here but it was just about MacSwiney who held on in a thrilling finish after the Bolger’s pair pulled away from the rest of the field in the final furlong. The Aiden O’Brien trained Van Gogh was three lengths back in third.

It was the first victory in this particular race for the famed trainer and it was also a special day for jockey Rory Cleary, the win being the best in his career so far.
