BOTH the Carlow football and hurling teams will begin their 2022 seasons with games against Kildare after the fixtures for the pre-season competitions were confirmed today.

Niall Carew’s football team have been placed in a three team group with his native Kildare and Westmeath. Carlow begin their O’Byrne Cup with a home midweek tie against Kildare on 12 January and then travel to face Westmeath on the following Saturday. If Carlow win the group they will progress to a semi-final.

In the Kehoe Cup, Tom Mullally’s hurlers begin on Sunday 16 January at home to Kildare.

Carlow then play Meath away on 23 January and complete their group at home to Joe McDonagh Cup champions Westmeath on 30 January. The winners of the group shall be declared champions.

Both squads will be able to return to the training from 8 December.
