HANOVER Park, Carlow is enjoying a whole new lease of life in 2022 thanks to recent work at the town centre site.

New pathways, seating areas and lighting have dramatically brightened up the area around the bandstand, while continuing work on footpaths around Hanover Park have opened up this often underutilised area of the town.

“As part of Active Travel funding we received, we were able to undertake work on paths and trails within Hanover Park and we completed that just before Christmas,” said Padraig O’Gorman, director of services at Carlow County Council.

“We have also just received funding of €82,000 under a disabilities programme, so we will undertake work on car parking and a children’s playground, which we expect to have down in the first quarter of the year,” he added.

Mr O’Gorman said the council would be looking at all funding opportunities as they become available in order to fulfil the long-term objectives for Hanover Park.

“We recognised over a year ago that the park had fallen into a little disrepair, so we made a conscious effort to revive the park and secure funding for it,” added Mr O’Gorman.

“With the development at the Penneys site happening at the moment, too, it is going to make a great difference to the town centre,” he said.

The plan for Hanover Park also includes a major activity area in the centre of the facility.

Mr O’Gorman confirmed that a full report on the work to date and upcoming plans for Hanover Park will be brought before the January meeting of Carlow Municipal District.
