THE achievement of Carlow solicitor Mary Morrissey in being appointed as a judge of the circuit court was celebrated at a recent dinner organised by the Carlow Solicitors Bar Association.

There was great delight and pride in the association that the Tullow-based practitioner had been appointed to the bench, when the news emerged in the summer of 2020. However, due to the pandemic, it had not been possible to celebrate the appointment until now.

Among those in attendance at the dinner in Lennon’s in Visual were regional circuit court judge Alice Doyle and former district court judge in Carlow, now circuit court judge Colin Daly.

Judge Morrissey’s parents Donal and Breda and brother Don also attended the event, along with Tullow solicitor Mary Minchin, who succeeded Judge Morrissey in her practice at Morrissey & Co Solicitors on Bridge Street, Tullow.

A presentation of flowers was made to Judge Morrissey, while Judge Doyle welcomed the Carlow woman to the bench.

Judge Morrissey thanked members for their good wishes since her appointment.

MC for the event was Joe Farrell, president of the Carlow Solicitors Bar Association. The event was organised by Jill Griffin, associate solicitor at Farrell McElwee Solicitors.
