The population of Co Carlow is now almost 62,000, a jump of 8.8%, according to the Census 2022 preliminary results.
The population of Carlow is 61,931, up from 56,932 in the 2016 census.
This increase of 4,999 was made up of a natural increase (births minus deaths) of 2,192 and an estimated net inward migration of 2,807.
The 8.8% increase compares to 7.6% rise in population nationally. The housing stock in the county has increased by 6.1% at the same time in Carlow, up to 24,686 from 23,724. This compares to a 6% increase nationally.
The vacancy rate in Carlow has reduced by 4.9% to 1,722 from 1,864. This does not include holiday homes, of which they were 275 in Carlow.
