THE newly-launched Carlow Parent Hub will be a “one stop shop” for mums and dads by providing parenting advice, programmes and support in the local area.

The new hub will provide information through a variety of parenting supports, such as the drop-in centres across Carlow, which offer free and confidential advice and support to parenting workshops and programmes.

The Carlow Parent Hub was developed in response to feedback from parents who identified a need for a central source of information on parenting supports in Co Carlow. The aim of the hub is to improve awareness of and access to parenting supports and programmes on offer from community and statutory services. The project is facilitated by St Catherine’s Community Services Centre, Barnardos, Forward Steps Family Resource Centre, Tullow, Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre, Carlow Youth Service and Tusla’s parenting co-ordinator.

Speaking at the launch of Carlow Parent Hub, Tusla area manager Annmarie Stafford said: “Listening to what parents have told us about the type of parenting supports they need and how they would like to avail of these supports are key in the design and delivery of a co-ordinated parent support hub across Carlow, Kilkenny and South Tipperary. We hope that by improving the accessibility of parenting services to all parents in Carlow, we can help them secure the right supports when they need it most.”

The Carlow Parent Hub drop-in facility provides free and confidential services across the county for parents and carers to discuss a concern or issue they have about their child. The service aims to offer guidance and support on a range of issues affecting children from 0 to 18 years, such as behavioural difficulties and parenting dilemmas. Parents in Carlow can also contact the dedicated email address and text number at [email protected] or  087 1241321.

A calendar outlining dates and venues of the weekly drop-in hubs and contact details is available within community and public services in the area, on the Children and Young People’s Committee website and on the dedicated Carlow Parent Hub Facebook page, which is updated weekly.

The launch of the parent hub, which took place in the Éire Óg clubhouse, Carlow also saw the Tullow School Completion Programme receiving the Investing in Children Award by Tusla for its work with the LGBT+ community.

The Investing in Children Award recognises and celebrates examples of imaginative and inclusive practice with young people. The agencies which receive the awards are services that can demonstrate a commitment to dialogue with young people that leads to change.
