MARKING 100 years of An Garda Síochána, Carlow gardaí will host an inaugural open day at the local garda station on Saturday 1 October from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, with a sensory hour from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

A variety of local and specialised garda units will be on display, including the dog unit, mounted unit, armed response unit and scenes-of-crime unit. There will also be guided tours of the station, to include the cell/custody area, communications suite and so forth.

Colleagues in the other emergency services are also joining Carlow gardaí on the day and will showcase their equipment, including Carlow Fire and Rescue Service, Carlow Civil Defence, Carlow Order of Malta and Carlow Community First Responders.

There will also be face painting, while a special guest will be dropping in to entertain the younger guests!

“We are looking forward to welcoming everyone and showcasing what it is we do in our daily work to help protect our community. It promises to be an enjoyable, informative and fun-filled day,” said Sgt Conor Egan.

This event will be preceded by a special centenary commemorative event, whereby all serving and retired garda members and garda staff members will be presented with a specially commissioned centenary medal and coin.
