LEINSTER schools B camogie champions , Borris Vocational School, look to go one step further and qualify for the final when they take on Limerick side, Dromcollogher, on Saturday at Castlemahon GAA in the All-Ireland semi-final. The round trip there and back is over five hours so a huge task awaits the Carlow representatives.

Borris VS celebrate their brilliant Leinster Final win

So far they have answered every question that has been asked of them overcoming Castlecomer CS and Mountrath CS in the group stages but Johnstown College forced a rethink when beating Borris in a tight round-robin game.

“It was a tough group and we knew it would be when we saw the group. We lost that match by a goal which meant we had to play a quarter-final. If we had won, we would have gone straight to a semi-final. We were flat that day,” recalled teacher and one of the coaches, Orla Bambury.

The players atoned beating Gorey in the quarter final and then hit 5-5 to 1-11 when seeing off Banagher College in the semi-final.

“That was a high standard game and was very competitive,” said Orla.

A 1-6 to 0-3 Leinster final victory against Presentation Wexford was as convincing as the score-line suggested. Borris were really good that day.

“They just are driven and are passionate. They really want to win and do well. The loss to Johnstown was a blessing in disguise because we knew what we had to work on. We knew we had a lot of individual players but we had to play more as a team. If a player was in a better position it was important to make the pass,” recalled Orla.

A big crowd travelled to New Ross to witness their provincial success. Some of those will make the long journey to the Treaty County.

“We are hoping to have a supporters bus leaving from the school on Saturday and we have the message gone out on social media. We are a long way from home and are trying to get as much support as possible.

“We know very little about the opposition. I know they beat Scoil Mhuire of Ennis in their final,” acknowledged Ms Bambury.
