BAGENASLTOWN swimming pool is about to get a whole new lease of life thanks to the generous sponsorship of the local community.
A large glass mosaic has been earmarked for the external wall of the swimming pool; the artwork will be facing the town and is sure to be appreciated by all who walk the Barrow Track, along with the many swimmers who enjoy this very popular point of the river.
This mosaic project has been specially commissioned by the Bagenalstown Area Community Development Group and funded by SICAP, Bagenalstown Swimming Pool committee and generous local sponsors.
The mosaic project involves a collaboration between the secondary school art students from Bagenalstown and talented mosaic artist Helen McLean. Helen, who lives in Wexford, is an internationally established mosaic artist and has been commissioned to create many art pieces in Ireland, Britain and the USA.
Art students from Presentation de la Salle and Coláiste Aindriú met Helen recently to discuss the project. They talked about themes they would like to have represented on a large glass mosaic.
This is an exciting opportunity for the students to work alongside such a talented artist and all look forward to seeing a beautiful mosaic art piece in this lovely location.
