A garda suffered an injury while effecting an arrest during a drugs raid on Saturday in the northside of Cork city.

The garda was transferred to Cork University Hospital for medical assistance.

The Garda Press Office has indicated that the garda was taken to hospital for treatment of a “non life threatening injury” and remains “off duty at this time.”

Garda welfare services have been put in place for the injured Garda member and his colleagues.

It is understood he suffered a broken kneecap.

Meanwhile, gardaí in the city assisted by the Divisional Drugs Unit conducted the operation as part of Operation Tara.

This is an ongoing investigation targeting the sale and supply of illegal drugs in Cork.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene. He is being held in garda custody under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A quantity of drugs and cash was seized in a subsequent search of a house.

Investigations are ongoing.
